NYANTAKYI speaks on National teams
8/5/2009
The President of the Ghana Football Association, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi says, the GFA settled on playing the Chipolopolo of Zambia because many African countries shy away from playing the Black Stars in friendly matches. He said most teams are afraid of the Black Stars because of the current performance of the team which is on the verge of qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and African Cup of Nations. The Black Stars are on top of the Group D standings of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with nine points, five points better than second placed Benin. The Black Stars will take on the Chipolopolo at the Matchroom Stadium in London on August 12. According to the GFA President, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, the game is to afford the technical team of the Black Stars the opportunity to try out some new players ahead of the September 6 World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan in Ghana.
On the issue of some footballers expressing their desire to play for Ghana. The GFA Capo says, the Football Association's doors are open to all eligible players.
Contrary to views that the National Under 20 Football team, the Black Satellites’ preparations towards the World Youth Championship in Egypt has been jerky, the GFA President thinks otherwise.
