Premiership quest underway 8/17/2009
Former premiership horses, Okwawu United, Accra Great Olympics, Tema Real Sportive and Ebusua Dwarfs begun their quest for a return to the top flight of Ghana football as the National Division 1 Middle League begun yesterday. In all nineteen goals were recorded on match day one.

All sides would be going into Wednesday’s matches determined to pick the maximum points with two matches left to decide the premiership candidates.

Both Zone I and II delivered three wins and a draw but it was honours even in Zone III where both games ended in draws.

In Zone I where a premiership debutant would emerge from, Aduana Stars put themselves in a good position after claiming all three points following a 3-2 win over Guan United at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Universal Stars and Bechem United shared the spoils in their 2-2 draw at the Wesley College Park in Kumasi.

The first round of matches in Zone II would be a concern for the return hopes of Ebusua Dwarfs and the dream of the Tarkwa community to end their 29 year wait of premiership action.

New Edubiase United and Gold Stars got off to a good start as they dished out defeats to Dwarfs and Tarkwa United.

Dwarfs were 0-1 losers to New Edubiase at the Ohene Djan Stadium while Gold Stars came from behind to beat Tarkwa United 3-2 at the Tema Stadium to go on top.

Clearly, the opening day results in Zone III leaves all four candidates at par with no wins recorded.

Mighty Jets were denied the chance to pick a win as they were held 1-1 by Okwawu United in Gyandu.

In the other group match, Great Olympics also split the points with Real Sportive at the Robert Mensah stadium in Cape-Coast as their clash ended 1-1.
